Q. Do you supply to the general public?
A. No, we are strictly trade only.
Q. Do you have a minimum order quantity?
A. Please telephone with your requirements, we try and be flexible.
Q. Are all your fish imported?
A. No, increasingly here at Empress Imports we are breeding our own stocks and sourcing fish within the UK.
Q. Can Koi and Goldfish be mixed in the same pond?
A. Yes, however Koi are less compatible with water plants whereas goldfish prefer plant life, hence Koi and Goldfish tend to be kept apart.
Q. How big will coldwater fish grow?
A. This depends upon the size of the pond, oxygen and food levels comets and goldfish can reach 8 - 15". Once goldfish and comets reach maturity growth slows and the fins become larger and more pronounced. Goldfish can live to over 20-years old.
Golden Orfe can grow rapidly and typically will live for ten years or more.
Koi can reach 18-36" growth can be rapid when the conditions are right and where they have plenty of room to develop. Where Koi are well cared for they can live to over 100-years.
Q. Can Koi eat plants?
A. Small Koi, will not generally harm plants but once they become larger Koi will eat all the plants in a pond.
Q. Can snails be beneficial in a pond?
A. Yes, snails will eat and breakdown decomposing organic matter and organic matter which blown in to a pond.
